I’m finally moved into my new apartment and getting to decorate it DIY style! Well… the style is more of a mid-century meets California meets bachelorette pad, but I love when people can come in, ask where I got something, and I can tell them I made it! Having DIY home decor pieces really makes a home feel unique and give it a personal flair. Most of the time people think of home decor DIY’s as something that looks really homemade and crafty, but these pom pom trimmed sheer curtains are totally chic!

The Easiest Way to Create a Floor Plan and Experiment with Room Layouts
If you have ever lived with me, you would have experienced the great annoyance that is me consistently trying to rearrange the layout of the room. My architect parents were constantly changing the floor plan of every room in our home growing up… I would say twice a year! It was fun and exciting and challenging, and so I learned to do the same with my bedroom. Even at a young age, I would single-handedly push my bed into one corner and pull my dresser into another. Sometimes, it was a disaster, and I had to put everything back after a day of moving. This is how I learned to make my own layouts. DIY Fur Pillow Cases
This post should not be coming as any surprise, seeing as I told you I was totally gung ho about redecorating my new sofa with none other than fur pillows. They are all over the place in the stores, and I think that they give a really nice contrast in texture to a modern space. I shopped around and found some beautiful ones at Target, Pottery Barn, and Overstock, but none of them had removable pillow cases! There’s no way that furry pillow is not going to need a wash every once in a while… Continue reading “DIY Fur Pillow Cases”
Home Decor Inspiration for 2016
A new year, a new set of decor! Well, sort of. I don’t have the funds to totally redo my entire apartment, so I am going to focus on small accent changes that will really give my place a new look. I did this a little last year too at the start of the year, and coming home to my apartment after two weeks in Chicago inspired me to brighten up the place again. Check out my list below, and get excited for some DIY’s!
#1. My new couch is coming TODAY! I will not recommend this store, since I had the worst time getting this couch on time (AKA it was quite late…and still isn’t technically here…), but I am really in love with the mid century modern style and quality… I suggest ordering online as the people there are much more helpful than in store.

#2. With a new couch comes loads more pillows. Though I love color, I have found that most everything I have purchased over the years has been in color, and it’s getting a little overwhelming. I am going to work on adding more black and white to the couch, and definitely some fur for texture!

#3. Is it wrong if I want paint all of my picture frames gold? And pretty much every other object I see? Seeing as gold is incredibly trendy and paint is cheap, I see a lot of gold DIY’s coming in the future. Also, I made this DIY art almost two years ago, but I think it’s time to add something new into the mix. I’m looking at creating some sort of art wall, potentially a stag head or some sort of gold leaf quote.

#4. I am going to commit to some succulents. I’ve wanted to buy them for so long but have been afraid I will kill them… but even if I do, they are only $3 and then hopefully I will learn how to keep them alive in the future? Hope and dreams of a non-gardener.

What do you all think? Any suggestions on how to organize, decorate, and overall improve my living space?
Fri-DIY: Modern Furniture on the Cheap

I’m not sure if you know this about me or not, but I am truly obsessed with mid-century modern furniture. If it has tapered legs, warm toned wood, and a sleek shape I am sure to love it. Over time, Megan and I have worked on furnishing our apartment with new, solid pieces of furniture to replace anything we had acquired back in college, with the exception of the coffee table. Ridiculously enough, it was probably the piece of furniture in the worst shape. Staring at the wood composite slathered in black “stain” that was peeling and bubbling over most of the top, I was driven to figure out something to do about it.
Nicely enough, my parents were doing some Spring cleaning, and they offered to ship me a beautiful modern table my dad had made and designed years ago! I love the new look in our space, and it’s really awesome to have something that was made by my dad. He’s made many of the beautiful tables in my parent’s house, and it’s really a blessing to have gotten to inherit one already!
Before this generous gift was bestowed upon me, I had worked on figuring out a mid-century modern fix for our sad coffee table. I found this incredibly simple coffee table design by A Pair of Pears and would have jumped right into building if not for the gorgeous alternative coming into my life.
This coffee table is not only stylish and simple, it’s inexpensive to make too! What’s even better is that it’s almost fail-proof for a new furniture maker (like me and pretty much everyone else I know in their 20’s). With a piece of wood, four tapered legs, some hardware, and stain, you will be revamping your living room in no time!
Thanks again to A Pair of Pears for sharing this post and for the incredible idea!
Fri-DIY: Drinking Liquid Gold
Though I’m not one to say that tea is not equivalent to gold, because I think it is, I’m not talking about tea in this instance. This post is about these simply chic gold mugs you could use for your godly tea that I found on Garland of Grace. Ever since I saw these beauties pop up on my Pinterest feed I’ve been wanting to ditch all of my assorted mugs and swap them out for some shiny new white ones so I could complete this DIY. Since that’s seriously ridiculous, I have not, but that doesn’t make me love this project any less.
Perfect for a gift or just as a pretty addition to breakfast time in your house, these gold painted mugs are stylish and beautiful. Make note that they are not dishwasher safe, so either come up with some ingenious idea to make them safe (and tell me!) or hand wash to keep them shiny and gilded!
P.S. I promise I have other ideas to share that aren’t just for transforming your mugs… but these last two Fri-DIY projects have been pretty gorgeous, don’t you think?
Thanks again to Garland of Grace for sharing this lovely DIY and so many others like it!

Let’s Try Something New – FRI-DIY

Bunnies are Coming! – A Shopping Guide
Ok, so the Easter Bunny is not bringing me a real rabbit I am sad to say. What Easter has brought, however, is a ton of adorable, bunny-adorned house items in all of my favorite stores! I keep getting emails about the adorable plates, door mats, and rabbit figurines coming to stores soon, so I figured I would share my current obsessions with you.
If you’re bunny centered like I am, the best time to shop for these items is the week after Easter. All of the home decorations plastered with rabbits tend to go on super sale right around then…though I’m keen to use them all year long! Wait if you can, otherwise check these adorable chachkies out!
These beautiful dishes at William Sonoma are a fantastic addition to any Easter table. Can’t you see yourself sipping tea from that mug with the bunny peaking right out at you each morning!?

A welcome home from this cute little doormat from World Market would certainly put a smile on my face. And at $12.99, who could resist?

I’m certain you could think of something to serve off of this rabbit serving dish from Crate and Barrel… some raspberry topped lemon lime squares possibly?

You have an excuse to get frosting all over your face now that these fun bunny napkins have arrived at Crate and Barrel. Wipe and wash and marvel at the adorable print!

Sparkles and bunnies together. Need I say more? Find them at Pottery Barn.

Listen, I know my bunny obsession is a little out of hand… but hear me out, these napkin rings from Pier 1 Imports have ears on them. Sounds perfect to me! (sorry about the magnitude of ear puns)
