Wow, has this been the craziest December, or is it just me? Usually the end of the year at work is quiet and painfully slow, but this year I’ve been going non-stop. I’ve also been working on a sewing project that I’m hoping to share with you all as soon as possible… as it turns out, beaded fabric is sort of the worst to work with. This recipe post is coming to you from a time where comfort food means a lot. We have been huddled inside all weekend as Hurricane Harvey wreaks havoc over all of the Texas coast line. Places like Rockport, Corpus, and Victoria have seen the worst of the wind, while Houston is currently being devastated by floods. So far, most people I know are in the clear and their homes are dry, but many have not been so fortunate. Highways are underwater, cars are trapped in the streets, and no one is going anywhere for a few days. All I can think to do is pray and bake and drink tea and hope for the best.

A berry and citrus combination is the unofficial flavor of Summer in my book. No matter how many times I pair lemons with blueberries, limes with raspberries, and grapefruit with blackberries, the flavors always taste fresh and exciting. There’s just something about the sweet and sour combination that you can’t get enough of!

So there is no Fri-DIY today, but I have some very exciting news. I’ve been accepted into the Houston Food Blogger Collective! I’m joining tons of other amazing food bloggers, photographers, bakers, and lovers in their search and adoration of good food. I will be attending events at various Houston establishments and look forward to sharing photos and recipes with y’all so you can enjoy all that Houston and it’s food have to offer.

Erika from Pancake Princess is quite literally the queen of the cake. Her pictures are to die for, and the food is fit for royalty. Just look at this stack. Did I mention there’s buckwheat in there? I don’t know how she makes such healthy things so delicious, but she does.
I was obviously drawn in by the blog name at Let them Eat Queso (you know me and puns), but I love the mix of travel, recipes, and food adventures that Hannah shares. Her last recipe post was for fried green tomatoes, a perfect accompaniment to eggs at brunch that I see down here a lot!

Being in Hawaii for Spring Break was incredibly inspiring. I can see why artists go on extravagant adventures to places they’ve never been before. Getting to experience such a unique culture in Maui was eye opening and exciting! I saw new animals, ate new foods, smelled new plants, and breathed the ocean air in a way I never had before.
