100 Calorie Cocktail Recipe: Grapefruit and Gin with Rosemary

Gin and Grapefruit with Rosemary by Bunny Baubles

Do you have a go to drink at the bar? I’ve always loved a good gin drink. Gin and tonic, gin and ginger-ale, and most recently gin and grapefruit. Grapefruit is such a prevalent staple in Texas, and the flavor pairs perfectly with gin.

In an effort to cut down on sugar, most cocktails really don’t, well, make the cut. Sweet juices, simple syrup, and high calorie alcohol really aren’t helpful to someone being health conscious. But a girl’s gotta have some fun on a Friday, so I worked on a refreshing drink recipe that cuts down on the sugar but still packs a punch of flavor.

Let’s go through my thought process, shall we? I literally just got off work from a full week on a Friday, I’m not ready to prep drink ingredients for an hour over here. Start with some gin. Buy 100% juice grapefruit juice. There are tons of options at the store, but make sure you aren’t falling for a 30% juice sugary impostor! Throw some rosemary on there, because in the words of my friend Lauren, you should put rosemary in everything. Top with bubbles, because bubbles are great, and it’s mineral water so it helps to hydrate us while we sip away at happy hour!

In total, this drink has 100 calories and about 4.5 grams of sugar, with all of the sugar coming from the 100% juice grapefruit juice. Not bad when you compare it to a margarita that has about 200 calories and 24 grams of sugar in one serving when using a mix! I’m not trying to tell you how to happy hour, but I am telling you that this drink is super simple to make, less horrifying to consume than most other cocktails, and tastes delicious. Time to invite over some friends and get a shindig going!
