I love having my girl friends over. They appreciate dessert like it’s their jobs, and since I act like it’s my job to bake all the time, we go pretty well together! Also The Bachelor is back for another season, so we have a reason to see each other weekly again! This called for celebratory sweets when we got together for a viewing party.
Though it may have not been anyone’s birthday, I really love birthday cake. Yellow cake topped with buttercream frosting and piled high with sprinkles is really a no brainer. Usually for this type of craving I would whip up this recipe, I didn’t really have time after work to whip up a cake before the show, so I decided to go with a snack-like alternative – puppy chow!
Traditional puppy chow, or muddy buddies, is made from Chex cereal, chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. This one swaps out the regular chocolate for white chocolate, and the peanut butter for yellow cake mix. It’s super sweet, but incredibly dangerous to put in your lap in front of the TV. I couldn’t stop eating it! Top the cereal treats with sprinkles, and you have a regular birthday treat on your hands without all of the hard work! Did I mention this takes approximately 5 minutes to make? More time for chatting and dying of laughter while watching the Bachelor! What’s your favorite TV snack? Birthday Cake Puppy Chow
Ingredients:
6-7 cups Rice Chex Cereal
12 oz. White Chocolate Chips
2 Tbs. Butter
2 Tbs. Milk (any kind)
1 3/4 cups Yellow Cake Mix
1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
3 Tbs. Sprinkles
Large Brown Paper Bag
1. Melt your white chocolate chips, milk, and butter in a bowl by mixing them together, heating in the microwave for 2 minutes, and stirring at each 30 second interval.
2. While the chocolate is melting, pour the Rice Chex Cereal into the brown paper bag. Portion out your cake mix, powdered sugar, and sprinkles as well, and set them aside.
3. Once the chocolate is all melted, quickly pour it over all of the cereal to coat it and shake a little. Then pour in the cake mix, powdered sugar, and sprinkles. Fold the bag up and shake it off, shake it off!…I mean, shake it pretty hard for about 1 minute. Open up and dig in!

Speaking of Taylor Swift, did you guys see her at the Grammy’s? She looked fantastic, per usual. Oddly enough my shots of this treat color coordinate with her teal dress and purple shoe combo! I feel accomplished.

This looks so divine! And finally, a puppy chow I can eat! I need to find out what I’ve been missing out on haha. Can’t wait to make this!
