Can you even believe that we’re so close to Christmas!? Every year I promise myself I won’t let it sneak up on me, but it happens nonetheless. Kyle and I only just purchased return tickets to Houston from Chicago and then have no plans for NYE… I can’t be too hard on myself, though. Tree is up (homemade ornaments and all), gingerbread house is constructed (and partially deconstructed), presents are [mostly] purchased, and I have an outfit picked out!

If you have been following along on Instagram, you’ve gotten a sneak peek of these velvet wide leg pants I plan to wear for the holidays. The velvet material, which I am obviously obsessed with, is so luxurious and the perfect compliment for all the sparkle we tend to see at Christmas. I love glittering accessories, but I think I may have outgrown most of the sequined dresses and glitter encrusted tank tops I’ve worn on past New Years’. And for the first time, I think I might actually be warm enough in the Chicago winter on Christmas, and I am not mad about it!

These wide leg pants could not be simpler to make. Each leg has a front a back panel, and they are connected at the top with a flattering, wide elastic waist. The velvet has stretch in it, but the elastic really helps to keep the pants up over the duration of the night. Getting the fit just right at the inseam might take a little trial and error, so I suggest trying them on inside out and pinning the sides and crotch together to adjust it before adding the waistband. You can hem these pants to be worn with flats, but I suggest a heeled bootie or pump to make your legs look sky high.
