Well, with the holidays being officially over (mine extending even longer than usual), I think it’s high time to focus on some diet changes again. Last year I did a little study on reducing my sugar intake. This year, I want to focus on getting exercise every day, even if it’s just a mile walk around the parking lot at work, as well as getting more nutrients from my food.
When I was in London, I had my first ever smoothie bowl. As I love smoothies and smoothie bowls are perhaps one of the most Instagrammable foods of all time, it’s shocking I hadn’t tried one sooner. But y’all, they did NOT disappoint!
Upon arriving home from a trip indulgent in scones, tea sandwiches, and fish and chips, I quickly drove to the store to buy all of the fruits and veggies that I could possibly eat in one week and headed home to make my own smoothie bowls. The one thing I usually have trouble with is making a smoothie smooth without adding a ton of calories from juice. This time around I used the ALO Light aloe vera juice I got in my Degustabox this month to add flavor and health benefits without adding too many extra calories – win win!
Speaking of winning, you can enter to win a Degustabox this week! Check my Instagram today for the instructions! But don’t worry, if you don’t win or aren’t on Instagram, you can try Degustabox using my link below to get 1/2 off your first box.
My recipes pack in at least 8 grams of protein, 15 grams of fiber, half the calcium and almost all of the vitamin A and C you need for the day! It is the perfect breakfast or afternoon snack, at only about 275 calories.
Since you can make a smoothie bowl with just about any fruits and veggies, I decided to share two of my favorites that I have made. One is a purple/pink mango berry combo and the other is a mango banana that is a truer green color. Both are not overly sweet and definitely hide all of the greens that I usually turn my nose up at. I also love the different textures in these bowls, getting a little crunch from the granola, seeds, and fruits.
Try them both and let me know which one is your favorite!
Mixed Berry Green Smoothie Bowl
Ingredients:
1/4 cup Mango, diced
1/4 cup Strawberries, diced
1/3 cup Raspberries
1/2 small Banana, diced
1/2 cup Frozen Spinach
1/4 Medium Sized Avocado
1/3 cup ALO Aloe Vera Juice (any flavor)
Squirt of Lemon Juice
Granola, chia seeds, flax seeds, or more fruit to top
Gather all of your ingredients and chop as noted. Make sure that at least half of your fruits and veggies are frozen before making this recipe to make sure you get a cold, thick consistency. Place all of the ingredients into a blender on medium until they start to mix together. Increase the speed to high and blend for another 30-60 seconds until smooth.
Pour the smoothie into a small bowl and top with chia seeds, flax seeds, granola, and more fruit.
