Getting to be a bunny for Halloween last year was really a highlight of costumes for me. Thus, this year it was going to be hard to top. I kid you not, I think Megan and I spent a whole week trying to come up with a costume. All couples, BFF, and group costumes were discussed and shot down one after another. It felt hopeless; like the more we searched, the higher our expectations were and the less I liked every single idea we came up with. This was supposed to be fun – what the heck was I getting so worked up about!?
After taking a creative break for a day, I got in my car for work and proceeded to flip through the stations before landing on whatever song from Taylor’s new album was being featured. Drifting into a daydream, I wondered what it would be like to wake up to a closet full of costumes from the Blank Space video. 21 couture outfits for one video – ridiculous! But wait… that means 21 options for costumes! Though there were so many good ones to choose from, Megan and I worked to find the craziest scenes from the bunch (minus the golf club scene, great scene but a boring outfit) and landed on the black bedtime look with bloody cake and leopard crazy face look.
Being Taylor was pretty much all we expected it to be. A classic red lip and some awesome high waisted shorts left me feeling glamorous, extremely fun, and a little bit crazy. It was amazing what a costume could do to impart some attitude on me! Megan felt out of sorts in her high maintenance look of full animal print and wavy hair, but had a ton of fun once she got into character. We decided the key to these looks being costumes was that they strayed so far from our normal looks. My advice? Pick a look from the video that really does not suit you. It makes the character all the more fun to impersonate!
To recreate our costumes, I’ve listed out all the items necessary and the DIY’s we created to finish the costumes off! Hope you all had amazing Halloween’s this year. Share your costumes with me so I can get inspired for next year!

Black Sleepwear Cake Scene
(no beds were soiled in the process of stabbing this fake cake)
What you’ll need:
Black tank top
Black high-waisted lace shorts – similar
Black heels
Eye-mask
Black gloves
1/2 yard black chiffon-like fabric
1 yard black feather trim
Hot Glue + Gun
Styrofoam cake form
Pack of white pom pom balls
Red felt
Fake knife
Makeup/Hair: Cat eyes done with this liquid liner (my new fave!) + smokey eye + red lip + pony tail
The basic outfit consists of the black tank, high-waisted shorts, heels, and eye mask. The gloves are any plain black ones you can find with the fingers partially cut off. To make the feathered shawl, use your piece of chiffon (any black see through fabric) and hot glue feather trim to it on the 1/2 yard length ends. Make sure to do this on a heat resistant surface like granite counters so you do not damage a nice table. The hot glue bleeds through the fabric since it is so thin.
To create the cake, use a Styrofoam cake form and hot glue white pom pom balls to the edges of the top and around the bottom. Use small strips of red felt and glue them to the cake to look like dripping blood…because every crazy Taylor needs a bleeding cake.
Leopard Dress Crazy Eyes Scene
(also known as the scene with the deer…what the heck?!)
What you’ll need:
Leopard print shirt
Leopard print skirt – similar, similar
Black heels (or leopard ones if you really want to match)
Black, wide belt – similar
Gold bangles
Makeup/Hair: Cat eyes + smokey eye + red lip + wavy hair (best tapered curing wand out there)
